Callum Fraser | Elenberg Fraser Architects

With a consciousness of the effect that buildings have on both the city and its inhabitants, Elenberg Fraser Architects has committed itself to architectural sustainability in a bid to create a better urban environment.

Launched in 1998 through its founders Zahava Elenberg and Callum Fraser, this architectural firm also believes that design doesn’t have to be compromised through commercial success, rather that one propels the other.

Founding Director of Elenberg Fraser Architects, Callum Fraser, is the engine behind the design principles at the company. Callum is specifically interested in sustainable design and the minimisation the impact of building and construction on the environment. Furthermore, Callum’s focus is to incorporate this idea into commercially viable projects.

They’re also responsible for projects such as the interior design of Melbourne’s famed restaurant, Vue de Monde.

In the sustainable interior design of the Vue de Monde project, Elenberg Fraser used kangaroo skin hide chairs and tables, while creating a kitchen and bathrooms that minimised water and energy use, as well as food wastage.

Other projects by Elenberg Fraser Architects include the A’Beckett Tower in Melbourne’s CBD. Here the company has redefined the social sphere by embracing the anonymity of city life. The building contains 347 louvres with 16 different colours that explores the sensory effect of colour in the urban workspace.

Interestingly, the colours of the building’s sun shades are inspired by the drought stricken Australian outback. So the building in a sense is a reminder of our our environmental history, and what could potentially be our future.

  • 2011 Asia Pacific Property Awards: Five Star Award High-Rise Architecture: A’Beckett Tower
  • 2011 Dulux Colour Awards: Winner Grand Prix: Winner Residential Exterior, A’Beckett Tower
