Good looks and good karma are the catch cry of Brisbane underwear label, Nico Underwear. This mantra is obviously paying off for the ethical fashion label that recently took out Lingerie and Swimwear category at the 2013 SOURCE Awards in London.
Facilitated by the Ethical Fashion Forum – the global industry body for sustainable fashion – the awards recognise excellence in sustainable fashion design and are judged by a prestigious panel of industry leaders including Dolly Jones, the editor of vogue.com, and Brigitte Stepputis – Head of Couture at Vivienne Westwood.
Entries to the SOURCE Awards came from all corners of the globe. Nico Underwear was the only Australian finalist in the Lingerie and Swimwear category and one of just three Australian brands to take home a prize.
Nico Underwear creative director Lis Harvey said in a media statement, ‘It’s a lovely recognition of our commitment to ethical business practices and sustainability in an industry that has such a reputation for poor treatment of workers and the environment.”
Lis Harvey added, “The SOURCE Awards prove that the future of fashion is looking brighter and fairer and it’s consumers who are really driving this change through their support of brands that are taking up the challenge of sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry.”
The Nico Underwear range currently consists of three ranges, The Nico Underwear range, the Bright Underwear range and the In Your Dreams collection. All ranges are made with ethically sourced fabrics, either organic cotton and/or bamboo.
The latest In Your Dreams collection features a beautiful mix of classic styling and subtle, feminine colours that are designed to be worn every day. Combining luxe organic cotton and soft bamboo fabric with a semi-sheer nude mesh, this range is as deliciously soft to wear (being bamboo), as it is beautiful.
Along with their Ethical Clothing Australia accreditation, Nico Underwear remains a pioneer in ethical and sustainable practices in the fashion industry. The business philosophy is further reflected in their 2013 Christmas Campaign, where for every sale before Christmas Day, $2 was to be donated to Save the Children’s Syrian Crisis Appeal.
